Dimensions of the Heavenly City
For years we have been singing that we are going to live in a Golden City 1,500 miles wide, high,and long. And, of course, we know that was based on
David’s teachings, which were in turn based on the verse: “And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with
the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal” (Revelation 21:16). David explained to those of us who didn’t understand the old English term “furlong” that it was the measure of 1/8th of a mile, and therefore 12,000furlongs equals 1,500 miles.Then, as you will remember, David received the revelation that the Heavenly City was at this time in the moon, but when we did the math it didn’t seem to fit. This was a bit of a quandary for a while until Matthew wrote David the results of some research he had done. I started doing all the calculations you did about the Heavenly City in the moon and the sphere that would contain it and I found something very interesting!
All the calculations that you did are correct and I found the very same figures as you did. I also found out that if you have a pyramid with equal length,width and height, then the calculation shows that the radius of the sphere that would contain it would be exactly 3/4 of its height or length.So with a pyramid 1,500 miles high, the radius of this sphere would be 1,500 x 3/4 = 1,125 miles; and the diameter of the sphere would be twice the radius,2 x 1,125 = 2,250 miles, as you also found out. In HC14:5 you said:”We did some figuring and found out it would take a moon with a diameter of about 2,250 miles to contain our lovely Heavenly City here, all five corners!-Four corners of the base and the corner of the apex above.”
