LESSONS FROM ELIJAH FOR THE LAST TIME
1Kings 19:1 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.:2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time:3 And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there:4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers:5 And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.:6 And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again…
Prophecy, Elijah speaking: The juniper tree was my first opportunity to repent (feel sorry, regret, apologize) and make amends. I was not in a good spirit at all. I had yielded to fear; I was confused and not in my right mind. You’ve all had trials; you just want to escape. You just want to go to sleep and forget everything, and you wish it would all go away. But it won’t, because you are there in that spot to learn something. If you are determined to learn the lesson God has for you, then you can be sure the battle will continue until you’ve won or the devil has defeated you and you keep on running.
So I arrive at the juniper tree, and that is where God wants me to stay and commune with Him because that is the place He has chosen for me to learn my lesson and grow into the prophet He needs and wants for that time in history. He provided shade; He even sends an angel to give me bread and water —both physical elements representative of the Word. The angel was not only my guardian whilst I was in that weakened state but he was also a counselor. He was there to give me God’s Word, but I was too wrapped up in my trials to see that. My goodness —and btw I have none— there was an angel right there in my presence and I didn’t have the good sense to talk with him or ask him a few questions, like for example, “What should I do now?” Instead of getting my strength from the Word, I went back to sleep. So the second meal was the physical sustenance I needed to go even further back into what you could call the world. The thunder, earthquakes, wind, rock renting, lightning — are all symbolic of what happens to children of God who run back into the world. I was given another opportunity there to repent, but I failed that test too. Oh, woe is me…all things work together for good, I know, but look what I missed. I was blessed for all I had done up to that point; just like you will be blessed and your brethren will be blessed for all that has been done through you up to this point. But what about beyond this point; is Jesus finished His good work in you yet? He saves the best for last. Are you ready?
If you are, then don’t leave your juniper tree just yet. There isn’t too much time left to learn these lessons Jesus has for you here in this spot. Your juniper tree is out in the wilderness. You’ve had your share of wonderful and miraculous days as missionaries, but before you can truly face the Jezebels and Ahabs, you need this brief respite in the shade of this tree. So eat the bread and water that’s being supplied –eat and drink deeply. Get your eyes on finishing the task Jesus has for you, which means doing it His way and that starts by not shirking these lessons by going to sleep.
“What if I were to tell you that there are “Ahabs” outside your charmed Key circle of protection talking about Mystical Bible? Would you believe me? The thing is, it doesn’t matter if you believe me or not. If those “Ahabs” are there, then there is nothing you can do about them except of course to call on the Keys in proactive prayer: I see those who commune in private, whose words are as poison, and whose desire is to destroy My work. These have no power to withstand the power of the Keys of the Kingdom. Call on the Keys and I will hide you from the secret counsel of the wicked.”(Learning to Fly)
